On Sunday, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Binaya Mohan Kwatra, Chief Executive Officer of National Reconstruction Authority Sushil Gyawali and Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation Vidya Sundar Shakya jointly inaugurated reconstruction and rehabilitation by conducting land worship.
This is the first project out of 28 properties to be rebuilt under Rs. 5.8 billion financial assistance pledged by Government of India for the reconstruction of cultural heritage sector.
In 2017, an agreement was signed between Government of Nepal and Government of India to rebuild these properties. Ancient monuments will be restored in accordance with the criteria set by Protection of Nepal Act.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of Reconstruction Authority, Gyawali, said that ancient materials would be used in reconstruction of all properties keeping in mind their originality, traditional significance, local traditions, values and beliefs. Gyawali also informed that the post-earthquake reconstruction has reached its final stage.
Similarly, Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Shakya said that reconstruction of historical heritage has been delayed due to Department of Archeology.
Mayor Shakya warned that archeology department would be brought under the purview of law if the people tried to move forward by fighting among people.
Mayor Shakya said that dispute arose due to archeology department during the construction of Kamalpokhari.
Temple, which was damaged by 2072 BS earthquake, is believed to have been built in Malla era in 10th century. Seto Machhindranath has been worshiped by Hindus and Buddhists with equal faith.
