World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on Monday with various programs.
The day is being celebrated in Nepal with various programs with the slogan 'Discouragement in Plastic Use, Contribution to Environmental Protection'.
This day commemorates the day on March 15, 1962, when the security, information, choice and hearing introduced by US President John F. Kennedy were declared as the four rights of consumers.
Then, in 1985, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a treaty with eight additional powers. On the same basis, every nation has issued consumer laws.
On the occasion of the day, Kathmandu Metropolitan City organized an interaction program in Kathmandu on quality food, basis of healthy life, consumer rights and concerns of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Speaking on the occasion, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Chief Hari Prabha Khadki said that her business should be run only after completing the legal process and selling only quality goods.
Similarly, consumer rights activist Jyoti Bania said that the time has come to bring a strict law for consumer rights.
In Nepal, according to Section 6 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2054, every consumer who buys or consumes goods or services is guaranteed various rights but consumers are deprived of exercising those rights.
