Pope Francis has sought to improve relations with Muslim leaders. Pope met with Muslim religious leader Ayatollah Ali Sistani on Saturday and reached out to improve relations.
His efforts and encounters are regarded as a historic event in modern religious history.
Pope, who is on a visit to Iraq, met Sistani at his residence in Najaf on the morning of the second day of his visit.
Earlier scheduled visit was postponed due to coronavirus epidemic. Pope landed at Najaf airport to meet Sistani. There he was greeted with high vigilance.
