A magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook New Caledonia Island in the South Pacific south of New Zealand on Wednesday night.
Alerts have been issued in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. A wave of up to three feet has risen in these areas. No casualties have been reported so far.
