Indictment filed against US President Trump

An indictment has been filed against US President Donald Trump in the lower house of parliament, House of Representatives.

Impeachment motion, filed by Democratic Party, accuses Trump of inciting attacks on parliament last Wednesday. Proposal calls on Vice President Mike Pence and the rest of the cabinet to seize presidential power from Trump.

The lower house is expected to vote soon on Tuesday, according to BBC. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Trump posed an immediate threat to American democracy and Constitution.

Democrats want to oust Trump from presidency before his term expires on January 20, citing criminal activity.

In doing so, they have pressured Vice President Pence to remove Trump in the first attempt, in accordance with the provisions of the US Constitution.

If this process is successful, responsibility of acting president falls on the vice president.

Discussions on impeachment motion will begin on Wednesday if Vice President Pence is not ready to remove Trump.

If Trump is impeached by the lower house, issue of whether to convict him or not will be raised in the upper house, Senate. This is the second time Trump has been indicted.
