Maha Bodhi Society of India has recently published the Dharmadoot Journal. Dharmadoot Journal has been published since 1935.
Previously Mahabodhi Society of India, Kolkata and Sarnath (Varanasi) respectively published Journals. This is the 86th volume published.
This edition is a special one as it has been published on the occasion of 129th Year of Celebration of Maha Bodhi Society of India and 89th Anniversary of Mulagandha Kuti Vihara.
This year’s Dharmadoot Journal was edited by Prof. Bimalendra Kumar and Prof. Ramesh Prasad.
Professor Bimalendra Kumar is professor of Pali & Buddhist Studies in Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Prof. Ramesh Prasad is dean in the Faculty of Shramana Vidya, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.
The Maha Bodhi Society is a South Asian Buddhist society presently based in Kolkata, India. It was founded by the Sri Lankan Buddhist leader Anagarika Dharmapala and the British journalist and poet Sir Edwin Arnold, its first office was in Bodh Gaya.
The organization began to revive Buddhism by restoring the ancient Buddhist shrines at Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar.
The journal contains articles including ‘The Essence of Buddhist Practice’ by prof. Tashi Tsering. This article of prof. Tashi Tsering talks about words of Buddha from Dhammapada.
Prof.Tashi is a professor in Sakya Buddhist Philosophy and head of the Sampradaya Department of four Tibetan Philosophical Schools. Journal also contains a book review, Obituaries and ‘Notes & News’.
The Maha Bodhi Society publishes Pali translations into modern Indian languages such as Hindi and English. Maha Bodhi Society also published books and pamphlets in local regional languages and dialects.
