Approval of Pfizer and BioNtech vaccines: WHO

The Pfizer and Biotech Covid-19 vaccines have been approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use. Countries around the world have been granted permission to import and distribute the vaccine.

Earlier, various countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and the European Union had given permission for emergency use of the vaccine. There is a need to ensure adequate availability of vaccines in view of the needs of the world's population.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reviewed the safety, efficacy and quality of vaccines with experts from around the world. Pfizer is the world's first WHO-approved vaccine.
