The UK has launched a nationwide vaccination campaign by formally approving vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNtech. In the first phase, the UK government plans to vaccinate people over the age of 80, working in care homes and health workers with high health risks.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called the vaccination campaign the UK's first and largest campaign against COVID-19.
The UK has signed an agreement with Pfizer to purchase 40 million doses of the vaccine. It will be enough to vaccinate about 20 million people. In the first phase, about 800,000 people will benefit from the vaccine, according to the UK Ministry of Health.
The UK expects 4 million doses to be available by the end of December.
