Sangye Tongku “Thousands stupas of Lord Buddha” will not be demolished in Chakrapath expansion: Minister Nembang

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basant Kumar Nembang has said that thousands stupas of Lord Buddha will not be removed for the expansion of Kathmandu Ring Road in Swayambhu.

He said this after receiving the memorandum of Save Swayambhu World Heritage Site. He announced to save Sangye Tongku “thousands stupas Lord Buddha” of Swayambhu area wich also lies in the World heritage Site of Unesco.

He admitted that monuments and area of Swoyambhunath should be protected.

He said, "It has become clear that the stupa of thousands of statues should be protected consulting with the framework of required design, road construction standards, provisions of the Department of Archeology and UNESCO."

He added as far as technically possible, other assets of the area will also be preserved. He also mentioned that the country's diverse culture is a great social asset.

He said that it was clear in the government's policy program not only to protect the World Heritage Sites like the Swayambhu region but also to develop them further.
