It has been found that drinking water is not of proper quality. Department of Food Technology and Quality Control tested 1,189 samples including water, grains, oil and ghee and found that 70 samples did not meet the required standards.
Of them, 21 are samples of drinking water produced by various industries.
Department tested the samples from July to October last year. Similarly, samples of 14 industries of oil and ghee and 10 samples of food grains were tested and found quality problems, said department.
Mohan Krishna Maharjan, director and spokesperson of department, said that 26 cases have been filed in various district administrations and district courts for low quality and distribution of contaminated products and sales during the period. According to him, out of 26 cases filed, most of them are treated drinking water.
Similarly, department has issued new licenses to 156 industries during this period, recommended renewal of 630 industry licenses and establishment of 642 new industries.
During the same period, 25,154 samples were received from Food Import-Export Quality Certification Office at 12 different ports and inspection and analysis was regulated. Maharjan, who is also spokesperson, said that import of 25 samples of papad, rice, almonds, spices, flour and gram flour was stopped.
