Bandana Rana, who has been working for human rights and women's rights, has been re-elected as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
She has been re-elected a member for a second term, according to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Foreign Minister Pradip Kumar Gyawali has congratulated her.
Rana was re-elected in the 21st meeting of the CEDAW committee in New York on Monday with 137 votes.
Out of 19 candidates, she came third in the list of highest votes. She is one of the 11 candidates to be elected for the term of 2021-2024.
Along with Nepal's Rana, experts from the Netherlands, Bahamas, Lithuania, Ghana, Australia, Mexico, Lebanon, France, the Philippines and China have also been elected.
Rana is currently the vice-chairman of the CEDAW committee. She is the first Nepali to work in the committee.
