A man who died last month of a corona infection in the US state of North Dakota has been elected to parliament.
David Andal, a 55-year-old North Dakota state MP who died as a result of Covid 19, was elected to the state parliament, according to local media outlet Biscuit Tribune.
According to his mother, Pat Andal, David became the candidate last June after defeating a longtime Republican leader in Republican Party's internal race.
"He had a lot of good ideas for the country," said David's mother. "He wanted to make farmers and the coal industry better."
David Nering, who received 41 percent of the vote in North Dakota's Eight State House District, was elected along with David, who received 36 percent of the vote.
North Dakota Secretary of State said his name, who died in October, could not be removed as mail voting began in the county on September 18.
North Dakota Secretary of State said that no candidate's name could be withdrawn during the polling.
North Dakota's Attorney General wrote in a local newspaper in mid-October that deceased candidate would be elected after the polls begin. General said that process of vacating a seat would start when an elected person dies or resigns.
North Dakota law provides that in the event of a vacancy in a state parliament, deceased may meet within 21 days of a meeting of district committee of political party and appoint a new person.
