The main day of the festival, i.e. the fifth day of Yamapanchak, is observed on Monday. Sisters wish their brothers longevity, health and prosperity with reverence, faith and loyalty. During the festival, it is customary to give vertical tika of seven different colors.
In Bhaitika, after sisters put tika to brothers, brothers also put tika to sisters. There has been a classical belief that worshiping brothers will bring unbroken happiness and prosperity.
On the day of Lakshmi Pooja, lamp was established, Kalash and Ganesha were worshiped. According to the tradition, garlands of flowers including Saptarangi or Pancharangiti, velvet, centipede and Godavari are given.
There is a religious tradition that after the tika, sisters give brothers sweet food including okhar, katus, masala and celeriac, and brothers give sisters a bunch of good luck clothes and Dakshina.
