Protest in Kathmandu led by Samajwadi Mahila Sangh

A protest has been staged in Kathmandu led by Socialist Women's Association saying that the incidents of violence against women and rape are increasing in the country.

Despite the increasing incidents of violence against women and rape, government has not taken any initiative to stop it. Participants in the protest have also chanted slogans against the recent remarks made by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa about rape.

Hisila Yami, a socialist leader who participated in the protest, said that the state has not taken any initiative in the face of increasing incidents of rape and those involved in such incidents should be severely punished. Yami said that her statement against rape was reprehensible.

Participants in the demonstration said, "Home Minister Jew, should we remain silent until we have the most raped country in the world?" They were carrying placards saying that the rapist should be hanged and that the girl child should be protected.

They said that they would continue to raise their voice against the incidents of violence against women and rape.
