Mahanavami celebrated worshiping and adoring Durga Bhawani

Mahanavami festival celebrated on the day of Ashwin Shukla Navami is celebrated on Sunday by worshiping Durga Bhawani. On the ninth day of Navratra, Siddhidatri is especially invoked from Nava Durga. After performing Durga Puja on Mahanavami, jamara kept on the day of Ghatsthapana is offered to various Shakti Peeths.

Special worship of Durga Bhawani, Durga Saptashati, Shrimad Devi Bhagwati and Devi Stotra are recited in various temples and Shakti Peeths of the state including Dashainghar and Kot with the sacrifice of goat, duck, chicken and calf. Those who do not offer animal sacrifices, according to their own tradition, offer kubindo, sponge guard (ghiraula), radish, cucumber and even jata coconut.

On the occasion of Mahanavami, Kot Puja and Nissan Puja are also performed in Kotas with joy. On this occasion, it is customary to worship the target of Hanuman Dhok and barracks and gulmas of Nepal Army. Every year on the morning of Mahanavami, 54 goats and 54 calves are sacrificed at Hanumandhoka on behalf of the state, but this year it will not be given due to the risk of corona virus infection. It is said that a program of daily worship and sacrifice has been going on since Ghatsthapana.

According to Markandeya Puran, Mahanavami festival is considered to be of special significance as Chamunda Devi killed Raktabija demon on the same day.
