On the eighth day of Navratri, the eighth of the nine forts, Mahagauri, is worshiped in the Dashainghar on Saturday. There is a Vedic orthodox tradition of worshiping Goddess Mahagauri on the eighth day of Durga Paksha every year. The color of Mahagauri used to be a bit black and Lord Shiva used the word 'A Kali' in a joke to the goddess.
Bhagwati did not like that word. It is written in the Puranas that Mahagauri is seen in the form of wearing white clothes of white color on a white bull. These nine forms of Durga are also called Nava Durga. Devotees flock to Shakti Peeths across the country on Navratri for worship and darshan, but many temples are closed this year due to the spread of corona virus. By adopting physical distance, some temples have been opened with the method of health security where devotees have been reaching.
There is a religious belief that if one worships the Goddess on the occasion of Navratra, one will attain power, prosperity and knowledge. On this basis, followers of Vedic Sanatan Dharma pay special homage to the Goddess every year from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada to Navami. Worship offerings are offered for nine days from Vijayadashami to the full moon day of Kojagrat Purnima.
