In Bhaktapur, famous Khasmey or Rango Jatra, which is celebrated at midnight on Navami, has been completed last night.
The procession, which is considered important from religious and cultural point of view, is celebrated on the night of Navami by bringing Rango as a symbol of Mahishasur monster and tying it in the premises of Navadurga temple in Bhaktapur.
There is a tradition of running together by burning the left and right while chasing the calf.
According to the priest, the ninth goddess Tripurasundari appears on the night of Mahanavami and as Navdurga Bhawani is completed, it is customary to celebrate the slaughter procession of Khasmey.
The meat of slaughtered calf is taken home as an offering, made into sukuti, dusted, rubbed in ghee and burnt to make incense. There is a belief that on the day of Lakshmi Puja, the incense burner will not be possessed by demons, enemies will be destroyed and Lakshmi will stay at home.
Similarly, Brahmayani procession to Brahmayani temple at Bhaktapur-1 Chyamasingh on Vijayadashami every year has started from midnight.
According to the popular belief that Nava Durga appears in Bramhayani temple, which is considered as the Shakti Peetha of Nava Durga, a grand fair is held here on the day of Vijayadashami.
This year, number of visitors is lower than last year due to the risk of corona infection. Bhaktapur Municipality has barred visitors from entering the temple.
After not being able to enter the temple, devotees have completed the formal ritual of lighting lamps and worshiping outside. Jamara, duck flower, duck, goat and chicken are also sacrificed in the temple.
On the day of Gathe Mangal, symbol of Mahishasura monster is brought to Navadurga temple, Khasmeya, i.e. Rango, is drunk from Navadurga temple.
