Bhalubang of Dang, capital of Province 5, passed resolution by a two-thirds majority

Chief Minister of Province 5 Shankar Pokharel has said that the proposal to make Dang capital of province has been brought to province assembly based on the suggestions of the parliamentary committee formed to study the capital and name of the province.

Addressing a meeting of province assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pokharel said that the government had proposed Dang on the basis of the recommendations of the parliamentary special committee.

Chief Minister Pokhrel said that the committee had recommended Dang as the first option, Rupandehi as the second option and Kapilvastu as the third option.

Chief Minister Pokhrel stressed that the province assembly and province government should be able to represent the aspirations of the citizens of all the 12 districts in the province when thinking about the province.

Chief Minister Pokhrel said that there would be inconvenience for the new job and urged to take it naturally. Commenting on the vandalism in the province assembly on Monday as a violation of political norms, Chief Minister Pokharel urged them to exercise restraint.

Earlier in the meeting, Birendra Kumar Kanaudiya, Leader of the Opposition Congress of Province No. 5, said that Dang could be acceptable if the capital of the province was decided after a detailed discussion.

However, congress leader Kanaudiya said that the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-M) had registered the proposal for the permanent capital of the province, Dang, and the name Lumbini in a 'guerrilla style' without any discussion.

Congress leader Kanaudiya said that they protested against the ban, agitation and the government's attempt to name the capital through a quick process when people were arrested.
