Nepal Telecom Authority is going to lay optical fiber in Kathmandu-Terai and Madhes Expressway under construction.
In order to provide easy and reliable access to information and communication technology to the general public, optical fiber is being laid on the Kathmandu-Tarai Madhes Expressway under construction as well as on other highways of the country.
Director and spokesperson of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Min Prasad Aryal, said that the program will now be taken forward on the expressway as well as on other highways.
NEA has a strategy to expand optical fiber in the main new highways under construction and in the future. He added that a program to expand optical fiber in the expressway has been listed and approved in the policy and program of NEA for the current fiscal year.
He added that a budget of Rs. 150 million has been allocated in the current fiscal year to take this program forward.
Stating that bids will be invited soon to move the project forward, he said that the Nepal Army has taken the responsibility of constructing the road and the approval of the Nepal Army is required for the bidding process.
He clarified that the process of optical fiber expansion will be taken forward in coordination with the Nepal Army, which is in charge of the construction of the expressway.
He also informed that a letter has been sent to the Nepal Army for permission. Dock is placed before extending the optical fiber.
The NEA is of the view that if the construction of the expressway and the expansion of the fiber are carried out simultaneously, the road will not have to be re-excavated and the cost will be reduced.
