Cabinet meeting at 5 today- Decisions expected on Covid-19 prevention measures

A meeting of the Council of Ministers is being held at 5 pm today. Preparations are underway to decide on Covid epidemic prevention options at the meeting.

Earlier, the cabinet meeting had decided to end the bandh completely from Bhadra 1. Even though the lockdown ended on Shrawan 7, national and international flights, inter-district transport, borders and educational institutions have not been opened. It has been decided to reopen the areas that have been closed since lockdown on Bhadra 1.

However, the decision is in doubt as the epidemic has intensified since the lockdown was lifted. It is said that the government is making preparations to continue the lockdown  while correcting the previous decision.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has imposed a forceful ‘odd-even’ system on private vehicles a week ago and has also banned walking from 9 pm to 5 am.

The number of people infected with the Covid epidemic in Nepal has reached 22,972 and 75 people have died. Infections are on the rise in populous cities like the capital Kathmandu, Birgunj and Biratnagar after the lockdown was eased.
