Twelve including a ward chairman arrested for illegal kidney transplant

Twelve people, including a ward chairman, have been arrested on charges of illegal kidney transplantation.

The Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police said in a press conference on Sunday that 12 people, including a ward chairman, were arrested. The Bureau's team arrested nine people from Lalitpur and three from Chitwan.

Bureau's team has accused them of transplanting a kidney in Bharatpur Medical College, Chitwan on June 9, 2008 by setting up a fake man. Among the arrested three are doctors, two women, one lawyer and five others, including Shrigopal Maharjan of Lalitpur Ward No. 3, said Bureau Chief SSP Dev Bahadur Bohara.

The bureau has stated that further investigation is underway on those arrested.
