Growing your own food at roof organically

A housemaker living in an urban city, Mrs Aliza shares her experience on growing her own food on her rooftop. This has been a great activity to spend time productively in coronavirus led lockdown she says. Growing your own food makes me feel happy and proud at the same time when I can feed my kids organic food without purchasing it, she adds.

The mushrooming population has led to scarcity of land and food. Even the alluvial lands are growing houses instead of food. With this situation the world is facing scarcity of land, the land areas are getting lesser each second. Crisis and scarcity is the point to be focused in many least developed countries.

 Many people have started utilizing their free time amid lockdown with an idea of “Roof Top Farming”-the unique way of growing the crops.

People having an idea of agriculture can grow the crops in the roof of their own house which helps them to sort out problem of food scarcity and making their livelihood easier. If you new to it you can get started with following steps;

Step 1. Identify whether your roof is suitable enough to hold the weight of crops that you grow. Soil is heavy and addition of water makes it more heavier so be sure that the roof is capable to withhold the weight.

Step 2. Make sure that your roof is a perfect location with all the facilities for growing crops like sunlight reach for 6 hours minimum, proper draining of water.

Step 3. Roof top farming can be more hectic than thought so have patience and don’t get frustrated if the plant doesn’t grow at first. Remember, that good things take times to happen.

Step 4. At last, do proper care and maintenance to uplift the growth of crops and maintain its beauty.

Hope these steps help you to grow more crops in your roof utilizing your free time at best in the lockdown. The craze for roof top farming is increasing and contributing to cleaner air and good health.

Happy growing and eating folks!
