Forest clearing investigation committee formed

The Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives has formed an investigation committee to investigate the name-splitting in scientific forest management.

A committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Friday formed a three-member investigation committee under the coordination of MP Pradip Yadav. The committee has been asked to study the deforestation in the name of scientific forest and management and submit a report.

Earlier in the meeting, the lawmakers had said that the state could not pay attention to the deforestation. They also stressed on the need to take stern action against forest smugglers.

MP Pradip Yadav said that the trees were being cut down against the rules of scientific forest management and strict action should be taken against those involved in it. Similarly, MP Aman Lal Modi said that the number of tree felling was getting out of control and the state should pay attention to it.

Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Bishwanath Oli, who participated in the meeting, said that scientific forest management has been implemented in only a few forests and not all forests in the country.

He expressed his commitment to take action if the trees were found to be uprooted outside the rules and said that he would continue to improve the forest management.

The committee has held discussions on scientific forest management program.
