Outbreak of Fauji Insects

Outbreak of Fauji insects seen in maize of farmers within Galyang Municipality of Syangja has made the farmers worried.

The outbreak, which started last year, has affected most of the farmers' maize farms.

As the outbreak of this disease, which can be easily transmitted through butterflies, has increased, farmers here have been busy in spraying pesticides.

Madhav Bhandari of Galyang Municipality-3 said that they started spraying pesticides after the insects started destroying the crops. He complained that he could not sow the whole maize due to lack of pesticides.

Similarly, Shyam Sundar Basyal, another farmer of the same ward, said that pesticides were spread in maize saying that he would not be allowed to enter the house as the outbreak was spreading.

He said that he was forced to do so as he was seen in the maize field on about eight ropanis of land.

Another farmer Bishnu Basyal said that the disease has not been cured even after two days of spraying pesticides.

Shib Dhakal, chief of the agriculture branch of Galyang Municipality, has suggested the farmers to be careful as the insects will destroy the maize by eating leaves in the first stage and cabbage in the second stage.
