Gosaikunda Snan (Bathing) - २०७७ जेष्ठ १ गते

Gosaikunda Snan (Bathing) starts May 23 (Jestha 10)

Gosaikunda lake is a popular destination for Nepali as well as foreigners.

Located in Rasuwa, this beautiful lake will see visitors starting from the Pratipada of Jestha 10, visiting to take a bath in the holy water of the lake considered to be sacred by followers of Hinduism.

The lake is believed to be where Lord Shiva, a Hindu deity, went after he swallowed the poison released during the churning of the oceans called ‘samundra manthan’ to save the world but which got stuck in his throat.

That is why there is a religious belief that bathing, giving alms and offering tarpan in Gosaikunda will save the fathers and go to heaven, get rid of the sins committed for the rest of their lives and fulfill their desires.

Hence, pilgrims trek, ride on horses or even opt for special helicopter trips to bathe in the lake starting this day up until Dashain, the most important Nepali festival.
