The Tibetan Buddhist complex in the Scottish countryside, Monastics at Kagyu Samyé Ling joined alley with the Karma Kagyu school of Vajrayana Buddhism to contradict the plans for the military shooting range near their sacred place, in order to protect their sacred place which was founded by Tibetan lamas and refugees Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Akong Tulku Rinpoche in southwestern Scotland in 1967.
Gardners Guns and Clerkhill Farm, these two companies applied to set up the shooting range near the village of Eskdalemuir, in Dumfries and Galloway, stating they have received support from local businesses and it would probably provide nearly £500,000 (US$696,000) for the local economy which can be used to recover the post-COVID economic.
But according to Buddhist community their precious haven of peace and harmony is under threat of being caught in the noise of gunfire between two high-velocity gun firing ranges which would ruin their principles of peace in the village.
The plans for these military ranges were drawn up and submitted to the local authorities without public consultation which was opposed by almost 18,000 people yet the shooting has already begun.
Buddhist nun Ani Llamo stated that they would really appreciate it if it wasn’t so close to their sacred place because the noise may cause emotional impact on them.
Lama Yeshe Rinpoche added Samye Ling, is a place where both birds and human beings live in a peaceful environment but it is ruined by the terrifying sound of gunshots.
People from around the globe come to Samye Ling for different meditation courses, this place will be badly affected after establishing shooting schools near the monastery.
Petitions from Kagyu Samyé Ling Buddhist Monastery are not just for the monastery alone but for peace of the world.
