Bird flu was found in some chickens, ducks and quails owned by farmers in Nakkhu of Kathmandu valley. Officials had destroyed 1,500 fowls in the Nakhkhu area of Lalitpur to control from further spread of the virus and infection. Officiasl had also destroyed around 1,000 chicken eggs.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, a real-time PCR test was conducted at the Central Veterinary Laboratory and confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus (birdflu) in the samples collected from the farm.
After the confirmation of the flu, the affected area was disinfected and l safety measures have been applied which includes mandatory hand washing with soap and water after poultry handling, eating properly cooked meat and eggs, keeping poultry coops far away from the houses, proper disposal of poultry droppings and litter and avoiding direct contact with birds and fowls.
Bird Flu was seen in February, around tarkeswor area of Kathmandu but it was taken under control immediately.
