Autobiography is crucial as it provides an opportunity for reflecting patterns in one's life as an author. For the reader, autobiography provides an opportunity for remembering, appreciating, and learning.
In Tibetan Buddhist context autobiography has higher priority as they are considered to be liberation upon hearing.
With such a high devotion, Dharma Ebooks has published the autobiography of 8th Karmapa Mikyo Dorje. Twenty-Seven pages long book contains two Autobiographical Praises of 8th Karmapa.
Dharma Ebooks is a project of Dharma Treasure Corporation. The project operates under the editorial guidance of the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje.
There are many accounts of the Eighth Karmapa Mikyö Dorje’s life and liberation. Biography, as well as autobiography both written by himself and by others, are a source of influence for many.
This book contains two praises he wrote of himself. Autobiographical Verses of Karmapa Mikyö Dorje Called “Good Deeds” and The Praise “He Searched Thoroughly…” are translated into English by Khenpo David Karma Choephel.
The first chapter, ‘Good Deeds’ gives an account of Eighth Karmapa’s life by recounting thirty-three of his good deeds. Back then he was one of the greatest lamas of the Dakpo Kagyu, and ‘Good Deeds’ is one of longest autobiographical works in verse. Sangye Paldrup wrote a commentary on this autobiography.
The Praise “He Searched Thoroughly…” teaches nine different points about his life. This autobiography was extracted from the prayer book compiled by Situ Panchen Chökyi Jungne. There is a complete explanation of it in Pawo Tsuglak Trengwa’s Dharma History: A Feast for the Learned.
This ebook edition was published on 14th February 2021. H.H. Karmapa will teach these two texts in Arya Kshema Spring Dharma Teachings 2021.
Publication of the commentaries on these two texts is in progress. Editing of this edition was done by a joint effort of Jo Gibson and Tracy Davis. Lodro Palzang drew an attractive cover thanka whereas layout was prepared by Beata Tashi Drolkar.
