Gaurika Singh of swimming and Mandekaji Shrestha of karate have won 'NNIPA Best Player' award.
In the 15th NNIPA Sports Awards organized by Nepal National and International Sportsmen's Association (NNIPA) in Bhaktapur on Saturday, Gaurika was selected as the best player in women's category and Mande in men's category.
Gaurika and Mande were named the best of 26 players who received NNIPA Player of the Year award. Gaurika and Mande have received Rs 1 lakh each after being selected as the best. Similarly, Subash Tamang of golf and Sangita Dhami of women's wrestling received Rising Player of the Year award for men and women respectively.
Both of them received Rs 50,000 each. Sujal Shrestha of football and Ayesha Shakya of taekwondo won men's and women's taekwondo awards respectively. They each got 50-50. In the same award program, the best players of 26 different sports were given 'NNIPA Player of the Year' award. Each of the 26 players receiving the best player award received 10,000 cash each.
Karate instructor Akbar Shah was honored with 'Gajraj Adarsh Kheladi' award in the name of first international runner Gajraj Joshi. Shah received 35,000.Keshav Thapa of Table Tennis received Mercury Athletic Award.
Madan Sundar Shrestha, Chief of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Ramesh Silwal, Member Secretary of National Sports Council Rakhep, Nilendra Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee and officials of concerned sports association presented the awards to athletes. The 16th edition of the award will be organized by Godavari Municipality, announced by Gajendra Maharjan, Mayor of municipality.
