Sakya Tenphel Ling Jointly organised an E-Puja Program with Sakya College 2021. Akshobya Jangchod Puja was broadcasted via Facebook telecast.
Puja was conducted by the monks of Sakya College, India. Three-day Akshobya Janchod Puja began from 29th, Friday and continued till 31st January 2021, Sunday.
The Akshobya Jangchod Ritual is a special Ritual of the Sakya Tradition. In this ritual, supplications are made to Akshobya Buddha.
Supplications are made to Buddha Akshobya in order to purify the negative karma and misdeeds of deceased beings. Buddhism believes that a person has died, he or she will wander in the Bardo or intermediate state for forty-nine days. After that, depending on karmic merits the being will be reborn in one of the six realms of Samsara.
For example, being with negative karma might reborn in the hungry ghost realm, then they will remain in the hungry ghost realm for many aeons and many lifetimes.
Once karma is fully purified it will cause rebirth in a higher realm such as the human realm. The Jangchod Ritual is said to help purify the negative karma of bardo beings. Further, it also blesses bardo being to accumulate the merits to be reborn in a higher realm.
Anyone could participate online in this ritual to help the deceased. Moreover, simply rejoice and dedication of accumulations of merit and wisdom can ultimately lead to the enlightenment of all sentient beings.
Names of the deceased were registered for purification and liberation in Akshobya Jangchod. Doing this is considered to help the deceased to reborn in higher realms.
On Sun 31st of Akshobya Jangchod Puja, Prostration and purification with the burning of MingJiang paper were performed. The Names of All deceased sangha members were included in this Jangchog.
