The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa ogyen Trinley Dorje will lead aspirations to end adversity

This aspiration recitation will be held online. The weeklong event will start today on 20th January. The event will broadcast till next Wednesday, 27th January. The program will be telecasted from 18:15 Nepali time.

Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje is the head of the old Karma Kagyu lineage. He is a supreme guide to millions of Buddhists around the world.

His holiness was born in 1985 and currently resides at Gyuto Monastery in India after his historic escape. The skilful Karmapa travel around the world to teach traditional Tibetan Buddhist dharma.

Apart from traditional teaching, he advocates contemporary topics such as environmental conservation, feminism, digitization of the dharma, and so forth.

The coronavirus pandemic has created great misfortune throughout the entire world. These prayers to avert adversity and serve the needs of the living and deceased are to be recited during a worldwide service.

Many male and female dharma practitioners will follow the Gyalwang Karmapa and pray for the epidemic to subside.

On Wednesday 20, Karmapa will recite the Three daily practices and the Heart sutra with the repulsion of maras. The Heart Sutra is an important Mahayana Sutra. It teaches emptiness and interdependence.

At this time, when the Coronavirus is spreading all over the world. We can clearly see the meaning of interdependence. We can see that we each depend upon each other, and there is no such distance between us and others as we thought.

If we understand interdependence the coronavirus would not have spread so widely. We think each country is different and separated.

Karmapa in his previous talk said that “we are only concerned about the things which affect us, and don’t take other things seriously. Yet, every breath we take, connects us with everyone.”

For Thursday 21, the Noble aspiration for excellent conduct and The sutra in three sections will be read. The sutra in three sections teach the two main points of the Bodhisattva path: gathering the accumulation of merit and purifying obscurations.

Friday 22, sutras of the dharani of Akshobhya will be recited. It is said that the Akshobhya is the most effective for purifying karmic obscurations.

Akshobhya  made a commitment, “until I awaken to Buddhahood I will never feel malice or hatred toward any sentient being.” This is the reason he was named Akshobhya, the unshakable one.

Saturday 23.01 the Medicine Buddha sutra will be recited in order to dispel sickness prevalent at present time.

The dharani sutra of the sound of the Drum of Deathlessness will be recited on Sunday 24. On Monday 25, Supplications to Guru rinpoche and praises of Tara.This Tara practice is extremely widespread in Tibetan.

For centuries, all Tibetans whether male or female, recited either in the morning or the evening. Tibetans have a strong belief that Tara will help. Tara is an emanation of Chenrezig. Chenrezig is the embodiment of love of all the Buddhas. When he appears in the form of a goddess. 

Guru Rinpoche or Padmasambhava was an accomplished scholar who came to Tibet at the end of the eighth century. While in Tibet, he dispelled all the obstacles that prevented the Dharma from flourishing.

He's one of the main figures in the early establishment of Dharma in Tibet. Thus, he is like a second Buddha to Tibetan people.People admire and respect him like a superhero.

No obstacle can stop him, no adversity can set him back.  January 26 will be dedicated to professing the qualities of Manjushri.  On 27, Wednesday the dharani mantras of Sitatapatra, Simhamukha, and Marichi, as well as the prayer that saved sakya from disease, is to be recited.

Thang Tong Gyalpo's prayer that saved Sakya from disease.Thang Tong Gyalpo was a well-known 14th century Tibetan siddha. Once there was a large epidemic at the great Sakya monastery.

None of the medical treatments offering rituals they tried could help. When everyone was close to dying, they asked Thang Tong Gyalpo for help. He wrote this prayer and epidemic subsidized as the history related.
