Oxford's Covid-19 vaccine is 70 percent successful

British pharmaceutical manufacturers AstraZeneca and Oxford University have reported that Covid-19 vaccine they are developing is only 70 percent successful on average.

This was found while analyzing data of the third phase test of vaccine, which was initially advertised as having brought very encouraging results.

Astrazeneca chief executive Pascal Cerrit said in a statement that vaccine against Covid-19 was also very effective and safe. Analyzing AstraZeneca vaccine data, company said it was 62 to 90 percent successful.

Vaccines developed by US vaccine companies Pfizer and Modern were more than 90 percent successful. Effect of vaccine developed by AstraZeneca is much less than that of Pfizer and Moderna.

AstraZeneca has stated it will make formal requests to regulatory bodies in various countries to distribute its vaccines. AstraZeneca is also preparing to list its vaccines with World Health Organization for distribution in low-income countries.

Company aims to produce about three billion doses by 2021. Vaccine can be stored at a temperature of two to eight degrees Celsius for at least six months, said the company.
