Sugarcane farmers have warned to hold Kathmandu-centric agitation from December 12 if they are not paid their dues before Chhath festival.
Handing over a memorandum to Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Lekhraj Bhatt at Singha Durbar on Sunday, warned to agitate if all the arrears were not paid to farmers.
Sugarcane mills have accused sugarcane mills of delaying payment of arrears of sugarcane purchased from them. Sugarcane farmers also said that written agreement reached with sugarcane farmers in January last year has not been implemented.
Understanding farmers' memorandum, Minister Bhatta assured to solve entire problem of sugarcane farmers. Minister Bhatta said that a circular would be issued to Home Ministry to arrest the owner of sugar mill who did not pay sugarcane farmers.
Minister Bhatta said that he would inform Ministry of Land Management to make payment even after selling land or property of the closed mill.
Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Patron of Sugarcane Farmers' Struggle Committee, Sarlahi, said that compulsion to go to Kathmandu to ask for money for their produce should end.
Earlier, Ministry of Industry and Sugarcane Farmers Struggle Committee A five-point agreement was reached on April 3, 2010 to take initiative to pay sugarcane farmers.
