King Birendra's private residence 'Shri Sadan' open for observation

Private residence of the then King Birendra 'Shri Sadan' inside Narayanhiti palace has been opened for observation.

On Saturday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai formally inaugurated the opening of House. Narayanhiti Durbar Museum has stated that public will be able to see it from Sunday.

Along with King Birendra, Rani Aishwarya, daughter Shruti and son Nirajan used to live in Shree Sadan. Shri Sadan has been closed since annihilation of King Birendra's dynasty in Durbar massacre on June 3, 2008.

Though there was a plan to open House from New Year's Day on April 20, 2077 BS, it was postponed due to corona infection and closure.

Opening 'Shri Sadan' for observation, Minister Bhattarai said that opening of 'Shri Sadan' for public observation was an important event. Minister Bhattarai said that this would help in understanding situation of the then royal family.

Minister Bhattarai said that government is involved in development of Narayanhiti Durbar Museum and other museums.

The three-storey building 'Shree Sadan' built in 2023 BS has 12 rooms. On the ground floor was private office of the then King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya. In the motor garage of house is a car that Hitler gave as a gift to Birendra.

Similarly, vehicles of the then kings Tribhuvan, Mahendra and Birendra will also be available. There are also toy cars of Dipendra, Shruti and Nirajan. Helicopters and airplanes used by Birendra can also be seen.
