Sunrisers Hyderabad were likely to reach the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) while Ken Williamson was performing well at the crease.
Williamson batted brilliantly and shocked the bowlers and fielders of Delhi Capitals. However, he could not last till the end as Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 17 runs to reach the final. Delhi has reached the final for the first time in the IPL.
Hyderabad were bowled out for 172 as Delhi set a target of 190 runs. Delhi will take on Mumbai Indians for the title today. Williamson's wicket was the turning point for Delhi.
He was caught by Kagiso Rabada for an individual score of 67 by baller Marcus Stoinis. After he was dismissed in the fifth ball of the 17th over, Delhi took control of the game.
After that, Rabada took 3 wickets to take Delhi to the IPL final for the first time. Hyderabad needed 30 runs in the last 12 balls to win. In the 19th over, Rabada took 3 wickets for 8 runs. In the second ball of the over, batsman Abdul Samad hit a six but Samad was dismissed in the next ball. He scored 33 runs.
Rabada dismissed Rashid Khan for 11 in the next ball and Srivastava Goswami in the fifth ball. Earlier, he took the wicket of David Warner in the first over and gave a big blow to Hyderabad. Rabada took 4 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs.
Earlier, after winning the toss and choosing to bat at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Delhi scored 189 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Opener Shekhar Dhawan top-scored with 78 off 50 balls with six fours and two sixes. Simran Heitmeyer remained unbeaten on 42 off 22 balls with four fours and one six. Stoinis, who came in the opener, added 38 runs.
Mumbai ahead in title claim
Mumbai had won the title in the last edition. Mumbai's team has looked balanced this season as well. The team is leading the title race by adding 18 points after winning 9 out of 14 games in the league. This final will be the fourth game between Mumbai and Delhi this season.
In the previous three meetings, Mumbai had easily beaten Delhi.
Mumbai beat Delhi by 5 wickets in the first match of the season and by 9 wickets in the second match. In the second match, Delhi scored 110 runs in just 20 overs. In the third match, Mumbai added 200 runs and defeated Delhi by 57 runs.
