Opposition Democrats are set to boycott a vote in the upper house Senate Judiciary Committee on Amy Cone Barrett, nominated by US President Donald Trump for a Supreme Court judge.
Opposition Democrats said that the process and method of appointing judges before the election of the President 12 days ago was wrong and it was not acceptable for them to give legitimacy by participating in such system. On September 16, US President Donald Trump nominated Amy Cone Barrett as a Supreme Court judge.
Barrett is currently a judge in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in the United States. President Trump has nominated Barrett to fill a vacancy in the Supreme Court following the death of liberal Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Democrats have been urging candidates not to run in the by-elections.
