Shankar Das Bairagi appointed as Chief Secretary

Government has appointed Shankar Das Bairagi as the chief secretary.

Cabinet meeting on Thursday accepted the resignation of Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi and appointed Bairagi as the new chief secretary, said government spokesperson Pradip Gyawali.

Regmi, who will retire on October 19, resigned two weeks ago, so Foreign Secretary Bairagi has been appointed Chief Secretary. Announcing the decision of the cabinet, spokesperson Gyawali has decided to recommend Yuvaraj Khatiwada, former finance minister and economic adviser to the prime minister, as ambassador to the United States.

Similarly, Regmi, who resigned on Thursday, has been recommended for the post of Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Nirmal Kumar Vishwakarma for the post of Ambassador to South Africa, said spokesperson Gyawali. Spokesperson Gyawali said that the meeting decided to reduce the tax rates in some sections of Finance Act.

At a press conference, Spokesperson Gyawali asked senior physician Dr. Govinda KC to withdraw his fast.

Spokesperson Gyawali said that issues like hunger strike, satyagraha and sit-in were not appropriate as the government was focusing on how to protect all the citizens. Gyawali said that many of KC's demands have been met and the remaining demands can be discussed.

Spokesperson Gyawali also urged people to be vigilant saying that the rate of corona infection is increasing.
