Rupendehi bandh has been called by the Nepali Congress Rupendehi against the decision of the provincial government to shift the capital of Province 5 from Butwal to Dang has been in effect since this morning.
Public transport is not running in Rupandehi due to the bandh. Congress and Rupandehi organizations have said that they will protest at Butwal's highway intersection.
The Rupendehi administration has issued restraining orders at various places in Butwal after the agitation broke out in Butwal.
Mukti Poudel, vice-president of the Nepal Students' Union, said that the Nepali Congress was on the streets against the decision to shift the capital from Butwal.
Security has been beefed up in Butwal following the protests. A large number of police have been deployed in various places.
