National Players Welfare Fund has provided medical expenses to national players and former national players.
The fund has provided a total of Rs 4 lakh to four people including athletics, basketball, judo and kabaddi. National Sports Council has stated that the fund has provided Rs 1 lakh to the family of former national athlete Rabin Kumar Rai.
Rai, who was suffering from cancer, died on July 4. The amount has been handed over to Rai's wife Manju Shrestha Rai. Late.Rai's 8-year-old son Sankalp is also suffering from eye cancer. Sankalp has also lost the light in both his eyes due to eye cancer.
Former judo player Prithvi Alok was given Rs 100,000 and Kabaddi's Manisha Bista was given Rs 75,000. Member-Secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) and Chairman of Fund Ramesh Kumar Silwal handed over a check for the same amount to them.
Handing over the check, Silval, member secretary of Rakhep and chairman of fund, said that the players who have dedicated their lives to the field will not be allowed to die without medical treatment.
The players are happy to receive financial assistance in the form of medical expenses. Silval, member secretary of Rakhep and chairman of fund has also expressed his commitment to return to the sports field after his health condition improves.
The welfare fund was established in 2068 BS with the objective of helping the troubled players, said Deepak Shrestha, member-secretary of the fund, who is also the president of Nepal National and International Sportsmen's Association.
The players who are in trouble are being provided financial assistance from the interest of the amount deposited in the fund.
