Prohibition on placing clay idols for Durga Puja in Kapilvastu

District Administration Office, Kapilvastu, has banned the installation of clay idols for Durga Puja in coming decade.

Chief District Officer Dirgha Narayan Poudel informed that the ban was imposed as it was seen that corona infection could spread due to overcrowding. In Kapilvastu district, it is customary to place idols in villages during Dashain.

Most of the Madhesi and Tharu communities have a tradition of worshiping idols made of clay. Indian artisans used to come to Nepal to make idols. Nepalese used to go to bordering Indian market and bring idols to worship.

There were several incidents of violence in Kapilvastu during the demolition of Durga idol. Last year, a man was shot dead by police in Krishnanagar Municipality during a clash during the demolition of an idol.

The administration office has issued a statement requesting not to play bajagaja and not to crowd.
