Lachhavi-era Pachali Bhairav Jatra is celebrated on Wednesday amid Corona epidemic.
The procession will be held at midnight on the day of Asoj Shukla Panchami in South Koliyam village. Earlier on Tuesday, Dhampo, who had a statue of Pachali Bhairav from the house of Thaku Juju in Bhimsen, Kathmandu, was taken to Pachali Bhairav Peeth in Teku. Locals say that Pachali Bhairav of Teku is the main Peeth.
Pachali Bhairav Jatra Management Committee has restricted the procession due to Corona epidemic and has also imposed PPA and safety measures on those carrying Pachali Bhairav idol.
According to cultural expert Gautam Ratna Shakya, it is customary to take pilgrimage of Pachali Bhairav to Pacholi Peetha, Teku, Pukhusi, Inakha, Gof, Lagan Jyabaha, Nhugha, Chikanmuga and Hanumandhoka to see the living goddess Kumari.
According to religious beliefs, Bhairav is the protector of the nation. Therefore, there is a tradition of keeping Bhairav as a field guard for the defense of the country.
It is mentioned in the genealogy that King Gunakam Dev of Lichhavi period established Pachali Aju as a fielder in the southern part of Kantipur city along with Ashtamatrika to protect the nation when he established Kantipur city.
