Although long-distance public transport, which has been closed for six months due to Corona, is open, number of passengers is low.
Despite government's decision to reopen long-distance public transport, which has been closed since April 26 due to the global spread of the novel corona virus, number of passengers has remained low.
A small number of vehicles are leaving new bus park in Gongbhu, which is the national bus park of the country. Before Covid-19 infection, public transport used to leave the valley at an average of 600 to 700 per day.
But now, at most two and a half hundred public transports are leaving every day. Pankaj Malla, HR manager of Lhotse Multipurpose Company, which operates new bus park, said that the passenger pressure in new bus park is less than before.
Similarly, General Secretary of National Federation of Nepali Transport Entrepreneurs Saroj Sitaula said that the number of passengers in public transport has decreased due to the discriminatory decision taken by the government to carry passengers equal to the capacity in domestic flights and 50 percent more fare in public transport.
Entrepreneurs have said that the impact of Covid-19 and bandh has also affected the tourist buses.
