Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has stated that private sector Himalayan Airlines has not been given the entire responsibility of self-ground handling.
At a meeting of International Relations Committee under House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, NEA Director General Rajan Pokharel said that Himalayas were not given full responsibility for self-ground handling and only allowed to do their own ground handling.
Director General Pokharel said that ground handling was allowed in Himalayas only because of the criteria. Director General Pokharel clarified that there is no plan to take over the ground handling of 26 companies by Nepal Airlines Corporation even now.
Director General Pokharel also informed that the responsibility of ground handling of Gautam Buddha International Airport, which is in the final stage of operation, has been given to the Air Services Corporation.
Director General Pokharel said that only Thai and Air India were doing the ground handling work in Nepal and now they were preparing to take over the ground handling of the two companies.
Director General Pokharel said that no airline could be established with a base in Kathmandu, adding that there was no question of handing over ground handling to any other company.
In the meeting, lawmakers suggested that the responsibility of ground handling be given to other companies, adding that it would cause more trouble to the loss-making corporation.
MP Bhim Rawal said that there was a problem in providing service to various airlines. MP Rawal mentioned that the self-ground should not be handed over to the airlines other than corporation.
Similarly, MP Madhav Kumar Nepal argued that the services of the corporation itself should be made more quality. MP Kumar said that the corporation could not be reformed without evaluating the policy and working style.
Similarly, MP Nepal opined that the construction of the airport should be done only after studying. During the discussion, NEA Director General Pokharel said that Nepal's airspace was severely damaged due to the corona.
Director General Pokharel informed that a lot of work has been done to improve the Tribhuvan International Airport amid Corona epidemic.
