Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives has directed government to clearly state the reasons and grounds for extending Kathmandu-Terai-Madhes Expressway project.
The committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday directed the Office of Prime Minister and Office of Council of Ministers to clearly submit the reasons and grounds for extending the project period by three years at a time keeping in view economic prosperity of the country and the needs of the common people.
Likewise, meeting directed Office of Prime Minister and Office of Council of Ministers to start the projects of national pride only after assessing various aspects involved in the construction of the country's economic resources, said Committee Chairman Kalyani Khadka.
The meeting directed the committee to submit detailed information to the committee within 15 days as the recently selected international consultant company and construction businessman has been blacklisted for not completing the work of Kathmandu-Terai-Madhes Expressway on time.
Committee Chairman Khadka said that the meeting also directed Ministry of Defense to submit a detailed report on the status of national priority project under construction by the army to the committee within seven days.
Giving information about the project at the meeting, Kathmandu-Terai-Madhes Expressway Project Chief Bikas Pokhrel said that 11 wards have been received and one is yet to be received as per the plan to connect 12 wards of Bailey Bridge in different access roads of the project.
Similarly, 84 percent of the compensation work has been completed and 16 percent work is yet to be done, said Project Chief Pokhrel.
Project Chief Pokhrel said that contract will be arranged to complete the work by the next 080/81 BS. Project Chief Pokhrel said that national contractors are preparing to carry out the work by next December.
In the meeting, lawmakers demanded information about the delay in the construction of Kathmandu-Terai-Madhes Expressway project. Lawmakers said that annual physical progress of the project is also very slow.
