Russia announces 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to India

Russia's Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), a maker of vaccines against corona virus in Russia, announced on Wednesday that it would provide 100 million doses of vaccine to India's Dr Reddy Laboratories. Fund has developed a vaccine called Sputnik V in Russia.

A statement issued by the fund on Wednesday said that an agreement has been reached between the fund and world-renowned pharmaceutical company Dr. Reddy for the clinical trial and distribution of Sputnik V vaccine in India. The fund said it would supply Sputnik vaccine as soon as it received permission from the Indian regulatory body.

Dr Reddy's co-chairman and managing director GV Prasad said he was happy to co-operate on Russian vaccine. Director GV Prasad said the third phase of testing would be carried out in view of the needs of Indian regulatory bodies, adding that Sputnik vaccine would also be a reliable alternative to fight against COVID-19 in India.

Kirill Dimitriev, chief executive of Russian Federation, said he was happy to work with an Indian pharmaceutical company.

Dr. Reddy said that company has earned a great reputation in the field of pharmaceutical production in Russia for the past 25 years, adding that it is also a leading pharmaceutical company in India.

India is currently the country most affected by the corona virus. The number of corona infections here has exceeded 5 million. Russia's Ministry of Health formally recognized Sputnik V on August 11.
