A memorandum has been submitted to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, saying that a complete ban should be imposed on sidewalk shops and cart trade within Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
On Friday, Hari Prabha Khadki Shrestha, deputy chief of the metropolis, handed over a memorandum to Janak Raj Dahal, chief district officer of the Kathmandu administration, saying that corona infection could increase due to sidewalk shops and carts and demanded a complete ban on such trade.
Memorandum states that participants in this type of business are less likely to adopt health care measures and that there will be problems in monitoring them effectively. Similarly, such traders have not been able to conduct effective contact tracing and control of sidewalk and cart trade, said Deputy Chief Khadki.
Deputy Chief Khadki said that a request has been made to remove the ban on sidewalk shops and handcart trade in the order issued by the administration to ease the lockdown or to re-issue the order to completely ban such trade.
Earlier, administration had issued an order to ease the ban in the Kathmandu Valley. Understanding the memorandum, Kathmandu Chief District Officer Dahal had assured to discuss the issue.
