"Only pre-preparation work has been done," said Kuber Nepali, head of the road division in Kathmandu. "We will go into the contract process only after clearing the site." The work of clearing the site started a few days ago. '

Detailed project report (DPR) of the road has been prepared. He said that the report had been sent to the road department for approval. "The DPR has been prepared," he said. "We are preparing to issue a tender to blacktop the roads within a year."

The budget is estimated at Rs 120 million. The road now has four lanes. Four more lanes are being added. In which 7 ropanis of Tribhuvan International Airport and about one anna of land belongs to a person.

He said that the land acquisition work has been completed.

"The tender for the road blacktop was to be held in three or four days. A senior official of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport was affected by the corona infection," he said. "The DPR is ready."

We are in the final stages of signing the contract. ' As there is an agreement with the metropolis,  to move a public toilet that lies in the area  elsewhere before the contract is signed.

The road is being upgraded through Kathmandu Division Road. "The construction will be completed within six months of the signing of the contract," said Nepali.

"We have estimated that the road will be operational within nine months at most." The concept of upgrading the road was brought before the lockdown.

"If the corona infection had not spread, we would have come a long way in the work," he said. "We have been working for 5-6 months to discuss and get land."

The road is being upgraded to give separate lanes to those coming from Bhaktapur and those going to Balkumari. Additional lanes will be constructed from Koteshwar to PepsiCola without vehicles stopping in the middle. A bridge over the Manohara River is under construction.

There will be a space equal to three lanes (right) from Koteshwar towards Jadibuti. Four lanes with one lane will be added towards the airport (left). Then the road will be 8 lanes. Telephones and electric wires in the road section will be made underground.

"We are preparing to work in a model that will work everywhere," said Nepali. "We are cooperating with the Nepal Telecom and the Electricity Authority on the issue of undergrounding the wires."

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basant Kumar Nemwang informed that there will be two-lane dedicated roads in the middle of the road. From there, vehicles will be able to cross directly.

"After the construction of this road, the traffic jam will be reduced by 20 to 25 percent," he said. "Therefore, we have started the process of constructing the road as soon as possible."

"Immediate action is needed as a short-term measure, so the process has moved forward," Nemwang said. "The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also studying the possibility of constructing a tunnel in this area."

The ministry said it would take time to build the tunnel.
