Demanding improvement in medical education, Dr. Govinda KC has started satyagraha again saying that the government had not implemented earlier agreements.
He said he would not break his fast until the demand was met. He demanded that the MBBS should be started immediately at the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences in Jumla.
He has been on a hunger strike since Monday at the temple premises of Mashto Devta at Chandannath-6 Ranichaur in Jumla.
The local administration had been monitoring him. Proponents of his case have said that he evaded the administration to start the ‘Satyagraha’ there.
Dr. KC has also demanded that the Medical Education Act should be amended as per the agreement reached with the government on Shrawan 10,2075.
There are demands that all previous agreements with the government should be implemented, permission should be given immediately for postgraduate level, and teaching should be started at Geta Medical College and Rapti Institute of Health Sciences.
He also demanded that the process of opening government medical colleges in Province 2 and Gandaki and Doti, Dadeldhura, Udaipur, Ilam and Panchthar should be expedited.
He had also carried out the 16th Satyagraha in Jumla. However, at that time, the government forcibly put him in a helicopter and took him to Kathmandu.
The Karnali Institute of Health Sciences was damaged in the clash. To prevent such a situation, he has started his ‘satyagraha’ in a temple.
Dr. KC has been in Karnali for about two months.
He has been treating patients who have come to him from remote areas for free. KC was obstructed by the local level and the administration. Even so, he has provided free treatment to many residents of remote areas.
He demanded that the use of masks be increased and that the ban be lifted and the scope of mandatory PCR testing be increased.
‘The government did not seem to be responsible for the health of the people even in the epidemic. That is why we have to struggle. My struggle is for the benefit of the people, ”he said.
He demanded that the appointments made in the Institute of Medical Studies should be corrected, regular budget should be provided to the Bayalpata Hospital in Achham and various bribes should be investigated immediately.
