Construction of four important projects of Tribhuvan International Airport has been completed amid Covid-19 epidemic.
Under the capacity expansion plan of country's only international airport, 300 meters of runway expansion, international ship parking lot, state-of-the-art international departure hall, international arrival 'covered walkway' and covered hall have been constructed.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai inaugurated all four projects at International Airport on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Bhattarai said that work of expansion of important physical infrastructure of the airport has been completed as a result of continuous monitoring, direction and facilitation of managerial work of the project even during Covid-19 epidemic.
Minister Bhattarai said that airport will now gradually return to its old rhythm as recent cabinet meeting decided to increase the number of international flights and also operate domestic flights from September 20.
Minister Bhattarai pointed out the need for active support of all to ensure safe air service by adhering to health safety standards issued by government while being safe from the Covid-19 epidemic.
Minister Bhattarai expressed confidence that new structure added to the airport would help in capacity expansion as well as modernization of services and safe and reliable flights.
It is said that work on the existing structure of the airport as well as other capacity expansion works will start soon.
Minister Bhattarai also informed that construction of the parallel taxiway, parking lot for 24 small and large ships on the north side of the airport, new terminal building on both domestic and international sides, service expansion and other works will be completed soon.
