The Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project has distributed Rs 32.27 billion in compensation, according to the Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project Environment, Compensation Distribution, Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Unit Office.
Announcing the annual progress report of the fiscal year 076/77, the unit has distributed 16.51 billion rupees as compensation for 23,613 ropanis of land in Gorkha district.
Similarly, 15.72 billion rupees of 23,827 ropanis has been distributed to Dhading. According to office chief Krishna Karki, the financial progress of the project has been 99 percent and physical progress 94 percent so far.
However, Rs 7 billion has been returned due to non-distribution of compensation to the displaced persons from the project. He said that the money was returned as there was no decision to cut the cost of house and barn.
Project Chief Karki said that work is underway to collect data on other physical infrastructures including plants and houses, plants and fruits.
"Separate teams have been formed in Gorkha and Dhading districts to collect data," he said, adding that "data collection on other structures including houses, plants and fruits is expected to be completed by the end of Bhadra."
Similarly, demarcation work and ring road survey of the remaining places of Gorkha and Dhading have been completed and DPR has reached the final stage, he said. Compensation has not been given in the case of lands which have been retained in the field book but do not have land ownership papers.
The project has started distributing compensation at the rate of Rs 50,000 to Rs 700,000 per aana in the market area on Mangsir 15, 2076 B.S. Karki said that the distribution of compensation and redressal of grievances were continued even in the tragic situation of Corona.
